Wanhua District has enjoyed a long history of rich culture. Bopiliao Historic Site, Tang-Bu Park, Nishihonganji (Japanese pronunciation) Square, and other scenic spots with rich cultural and artistic characteristics are mostly located in northern and central Wanhua; now sounthern Wanhua has the first Story House of its own, displaying its history and culture. The Story House, with the theme of “Wanhua guide” was opened on Apr. 1st; it will offer an exhibition of temporal and spatial changes as well as cultural events from Apr. 1st to Nov. 30th, 2014.
The Parks and Street Lights Office of the Public Works Department is in charge of the interior design and remodeling, while the Department of Cultural Affairs is the organizer of the Story House. Wanhua Story House is a multi-functional exhibition hall. In addition to the exhibition function, reading and chess playing are also available and free of charge through the addition of a parent-child reading room and a chess-playing section. We welcome citizens to use the facilities.
Since the 1970s, under the instructions of late President Chiang Ching-kuo, the present Wanda Road was constructed along with the largest wholesale produce and poultry market at the time. The former golf course was transformed into the present Youth Park, which changed the lifestyle in southern Wanhua. In addition to the historical photos, there are six “Re-envisioning Wanhua” documentaries which were filmed and produced jointly by the professors and students of the National Taiwan University’s Graduate Institute of Building and Planning. These documentaries depict the integration of tradition and modernity in southern Wanhua, simultaneously evoking the nostalgic memories of the past Wanhua from the depth of your mind and making our children feel the flourishing vitality of southern Wanhua. You are sincerely invited to take an intellectual trip about full of history and culture of southern Wanhua.
