At 5 in the morning, a little man in "Bihu Park" started a hard day's work. It is the famous border quarantine dog Beagle,But today it's tasked with detecting brown root disease in trees.
Because of its keen sense of smell, Beagles are widely trained to find contraband at airports. At the same time, they protect Taiwan's food safety and protect wildlife from alien threats, preventing illegal potential crises outside the country.
But Beagle's skills are not limited to this, it can also smell whether the tree is suffering from brown root disease, help humans to prevent and control it in advance, and provide citizens with a safe and green shade environment.
Brown root disease, which even humans can't detect, how does Beagle detect tree disease? Let today's protagonist Lucy (Beagle) take you to find out.
Lucy (Beagle) is 7 years old this year. She is a veteran of brown root disease detection. She has 5 years of working experience, and her work scope is widespread throughout Taiwan.
Under the leadership of the dog handler, Lucy would quietly squat beside the tree when she found the diseased plant, and the dog handler would also give a small cookie reward in due course.
The dog leader 'Qi Wenhao' said that there are conditions to be selected as brown root disease detection dogs. First of all, their personality must be non-aggressive, highly social, strong smelling ability, good physical fitness, etc.
Detection dogs must undergo 1.5 to 2 years of training and obtain a score of 90 or more in the indoor examination before they can be put on duty.
Beagle works about 4-5 hours a day. If the temperature exceeds 30 degrees C in summer, it will be more breathless and affect the accuracy. It must rest, so in summer, it will only work from 5 to 8 in the morning.
A detection dog can work for 8-9 years, and when they have a decline in their smelling ability or physical fitness, they must retire to "take care of the old age."
Notice:Keep social distance at least one meter, must wear a mask at all times.
